The LIC purchased a booster pump to allow dredging operations to extend out further into the lake.The local dredging operations began utilizing the east spoil site in 2005 and it is currently in use today.City of Storm Lake purchased land to the east of the Sunrise Pointe Golf Course to construct a second spoil containment facility.The LIC began dredging and utilized the spoil site on the south side of Storm Lake for the first three years of the local project.The Lake Improvement Commission (LIC) was formed by the City of Storm Lake, City of Lakeside, Buena Vista County, and the LPA to continue dredging operations of the lake.Buena Vista County purchased a dredge and related equipment to allow for a local dredging operation.Dredging was done by the State of Iowa (DNR) which removed 1,320,000 cubic yards of silt from the west side of the lake.A plan was developed by a group of local citizens and the Lake Preservation Association (LPA) to monitor the watershed and stop siltation in the lake.First spoil containment site was developed on the south side of the lake.Through public meetings and work by the DNR, a plan was developed to dredge part of Storm Lake. A diagnostic and feasibility study was conducted with one recommendation being to dredge the lake to improve water quality.
